The tip of Cap Ferret
One of the pearls of the Gironde is Cap Ferret, which forms a long barrier beach separating the Bay of Arcachon from the Atlantic Ocean. Cap Ferret lies on the southernmost tip of the Lège-Cap-Ferret peninsula. This peninsula is the most recent geological formation in Gironde. It boasts an exceptional landscape with a rich natural environment. The Pointe du Cap Ferret offers a 180° view of the Dune du Pilat, the Banc d’Arguin, the Bassin passes and the Atlantic. Stroll along this magnificent beach and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
The village of L’Herbe
It’s a charming, authentic little village on the Bassin d’Arcachon, a place not to be missed. A real postcard. Take a stroll through the narrow streets of the famous oyster huts, where you can sample delicious oysters while enjoying a breathtaking view of the Bassin d’Arcachon and the Dune du Pilat.
One of the village’s special features is the chapel called “Sainte-Marie-du-Cap”, which is all that remains of the famous Algerian villa built by Léon Lesca in 1885 and destroyed in the 1960s. Located on the Boulevard de la Plage, the chapel’s architecture is reminiscent of the Moorish style: two-tone stonework, moucharabieh, mosaic tiles and bright colors… This chapel is an important part of the historical heritage of the Cap Ferret peninsula.
The Piraillan Reservoirs
The Piraillan reservoirs form an immense reserve that has been classified as a natural heritage site since 1943, and are located on the western edge of the Bay of Arcachon, at the level of the sandy spit that protects it. This 40-hectare nature park belongs to the Coastal Conservation Agency and is home to a veritable botanical treasure trove and exceptional fauna. You’ll discover a large concentration of rare specimens, which is why the Reserve has set up rules of good conduct to preserve this precious biodiversity.
The Grand Crohot ocean beach
The Grand Crohot beach will be your favorite family leisure spot on your vacation in the Arcachon basin. You’ll enjoy the atmosphere of a real family vacation on this well-appointed, well-maintained beach, which is supervised and accessible to people with reduced mobility. It’s one of three Océanes beaches on the Cap Ferret peninsula that are supervised in summer, along with the Truc vert beach and the Horizon beach. It’s a must for surfers and nature lovers alike, with beautiful walks along the coast. There’s also a surf club and snack bars. Relax in the sun and perfect your tan between two swims in the waves, or enjoy an ice cream with your children after building some sandcastles.
At Cap Ferret, your days will be filled with moments of relaxation, wine tasting… but also enriching visits.
