The most beautiful markets on the Bay of Arcachon
To discover local traditions and taste the region’s best products, there’s nothing better than visiting a market during your stay in the Arcachon Basin. Strolling between the stalls of a market in Arcachon, La Teste-de-Buch or Lège-Cap-Ferret will also be the perfect opportunity to prepare a picnic for a beach day at the Dune du Pilat or on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Arcachon Basin.
Cap Ferret market
This is the best-known market in Lège-Cap-Ferret. It is located on the Place du Marché in Lège-Cap-Ferret. Around a hundred stallholders sell food, books, jewelry, souvenirs, clothes, flowers, etc. It’s an indoor and outdoor market where holidaymakers and locals mingle. From mid-June to mid-September, it’s open every morning until 1pm. The rest of the year, it’s open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
La Teste-de-Buch market
Every day from 8am to 1pm (except Mondays out of season), the halles de La Teste-de-Buch, located opposite the Saint-Vincent church, come alive. Dozens of exhibitors set up shop inside. Conviviality is the order of the day! On Thursdays and weekends, the market extends outside. You’ll find everything, including some specialties from the Arcachon basin. Fridays are devoted to organic and fair-trade products.
Arès market
On Tuesdays and Sundays all year round, a market is held on Place Weiss from 8am to 1pm (2km from Les Écureuils campsite). As well as seasonal fruit and vegetables, you can buy a range of dishes prepared on the spot. A few stalls sell souvenirs, such as jewelry and clothing. During the summer, producers from the Gironde region are invited to come and sell their products and share their passion. It’s the perfect time to sample the region’s specialties or drink a cold craft beer.
Andernos-les-Bains market
On the eastern coast of the Arcachon basin, just a few minutes from Les Écureuils campsite, you’ll find one of the basin’s largest covered markets. You’ll find mainly food products, as well as a small store selling kitchen utensils. On Fridays, the market also takes place outside. You’ll find ready-made meals and pastries. The Andernos-les-Bains market is open every day until 1pm during the summer. Out of season, it is only open on Friday mornings.
Arcachon market
Arcachon has several markets. The biggest is the one held at the Halle Baltard on Place des Marquises. It’s a must-see in Arcachon. You’ll find all the fresh produce of the region, including oysters and fish. A bar is open until 8.30pm, giving the market a festive, convivial atmosphere. Artisans selling books, toys, clothes and other souvenirs set up evening stalls Tuesday to Friday from mid-July to mid-August, from 7pm to 11pm. The Arcachon market runs from Tuesday to Sunday, 7.30am to 1pm, all year round, and on Monday mornings and Fridays and Saturdays from 5pm to 8pm during school vacations and public vacations.
Claouey market
Claouey is a small village in the commune of Lège-Cap-Ferret. Its market welcomes local producers and craftsmen every Saturday morning from mid-June to mid-September. You’ll find all the good local produce and souvenirs. A drink at the counter will give you the chance to chat with the locals and perhaps discover a few places to explore during your camping vacation in the Arcachon Basin.
