The most beautiful beaches in Gironde
From the Pointe de Grave to the south of the Bassin d’Arcachon, Gironde boasts 126km of coastline, mainly long golden sandy beaches for swimming, sunbathing and surfing.
Despite the boom in tourism, the beaches of the Côte d’Argent have managed to remain authentic and natural. Here’s our top 10 of the most beautiful beaches in Gironde, to see during your camping vacation in the Bassin d’Arcachon.
La Jenny beach in Le Porge
This unspoilt beach has retained its authenticity, probably because you have to walk for a while through a pine forest to reach it. For many locals, it’s the most beautiful beach in Gironde. The southern part of the beach is naturist, and is the only supervised area in summer.
Truc Vert beach in Lège-Cap-Ferret
Located on the west coast of Cap Ferret, this magnificent beach is appreciated by surfers for its quality waves. The splendid setting is ideal for a break during a bike ride along Cap Ferret, for example. Only part of the Truc Vert beach is supervised in summer.
Moulleau beach in Arcachon
This pretty beach is perfectly situated between the entrance to the Arcachon basin and the Moulleau district. Its proximity to the town center, children’s beach clubs and views of the Dune du Pilat and Banc d’Arguin make it a popular spot with tourists.
The Pin Sec beach at Naujac-sur-Mer
A wild 4km beach bordered by dunes, the Pin Sec beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in France. It’s an intimate beach, hidden behind a pine forest and supervised in summer. Blockhouses from the Atlantic Wall can be found here.
La Corniche beach in La Teste-de-Buch
Located at the foot of the Pilat dune, opposite the Banc d’Arguin, the Corniche beach is particularly busy, but well worth a visit. From the beach, you can climb up the dune and enjoy one of the finest views of the Arcachon Basin. It takes just under an hour to get there from Les Écureuils campsite in Arès.
Lacanau’s south beach
Lacanau is one of France’s most famous surf spots, with waves breaking over 15km of beach. The southern part of the beach is the ideal area for your camping vacation in the Arcachon basin. It has the Handiplage label and a bicycle park.
Grand Crohot beach in Lège-Cap-Ferret
Grand Crohot beach is one of the most famous beaches in Gironde. It’s only a few minutes’ walk from the beach, which retains a wild aspect that makes it a charming place to be, despite the high number of visitors. There’s a surf school and restaurants.
Pointe aux Chevaux beach in Lège-Cap-Ferret
With its view of Ile aux Oiseaux and the Arcachon Basin, its pretty villas, its wooded setting and crystal-clear water, this beach has all the makings of a postcard landscape. Just ten minutes from Les Écureuils campsite, it’s perfect for an oyster tasting followed by a stroll, barefoot in the sand.
The Ocean beach at Hourtin
This ten-kilometre long sandy beach is well worth a visit. Located to the north-west of Bordeaux, there’s always plenty of room for a good time with the family or for unhindered surfing. Only part of the beach is supervised in summer.
Saint-Nicolas beach at Verdon-sur-Mer
The last beach in our top 10 list of the most beautiful beaches in Gironde, Plage Saint-Nicolas is located next to Pointe de Grave at the mouth of the Gironde. It’s a peaceful beach, part of which is naturist.
For several years now, it has been awarded the Pavillon Bleu label. However, we strongly advise you to swim only in the supervised area.
