The Vélodyssée is Europe’s longest cycle route, with over 1,200 km of signposted cycle paths in both directions. It’s one of the most popular itineraries for cyclists. Running through three French regions, it starts in Brittany and goes all the way down to the Basque Country! In the Basin, it represents around 100 km of cycle routes, so you can enjoy your stay in the region. You’ll be able to take full advantage of the beautiful countryside and landscapes that surround the Basin. Start from our 3-star Les Écureuils campsite in Arès on the Bassin d’Arcachon, and head for Audenge.
Second stage: From Audenge to Le Teich
The continuation of our short bike ride between Audenge and Le Teich. Many wonders await you on your ride, so get ready. Along the way, you’ll come across the pretty town of Audenge, with its many walks along the wooden huts lining the harbour, the route of Santiago de Compostela or the Certes and Graveyron estates. Stop for a while to enjoy the beach, the town center and its shops. Continue on to Le Teich and discover Biganos. Its two harbors will undoubtedly charm you: the first, a marina, is the only river port on the Bassin d’Arcachon. This is where the Leyre begins. Further up, you’ll find Biganos’ second port, the Port des Tuiles, considered one of the last wild harbors in the Basin.
Final leg: From Le Teich to Cap Ferret, via the Arcachon jetty
Diversity and encounters are at the heart of the Bassin d’Arcachon! In Le Teich, the sublime ornithological reserve presents the many species identified in the Bassin area. At the Arcachon jetty, you can take advantage of the many events and exhibitions on offer throughout the year. The Cap Ferret lighthouse invites you to discover the hidden treasures beneath the surface of the water, and the town of La Teste de Buch lets you appreciate the charm of the oyster-farming villages. Along the way, you’ll come across many other towns that have preserved their authenticity and heritage. The 70.5-kilometer route takes you through the towns of La Teste-de-Buch, Lège-Cap-Ferret and Arès, as well as iconic sites such as Île aux oiseaux, the Réserve Ornithologique du Teich and the Cap Ferret lighthouse. During your trip, stop off to discover the Réserve Ornithologique du Teich, which offers total immersion in the natural environment of the Bassin d’Arcachon. You’ll be able to observe a wide variety of species, from the common (shovelers, coots, cormorants…) to the rare (pink flamingos, little egrets…).
Relax
After the effort, after the boat that takes you from the Arcachon jetty to the Cap-Ferret jetty, enjoy a moment of relaxation with a stroll along the beach. Children can enjoy a delicious ice cream as you visit the many villages that make up the Lège-Cap Ferret peninsula on the Bassin d’Arcachon.
