La Barrière, Lacanau
La Barrière in Lacanau is the most famous surf spot in the Gironde. It’s impossible not to mention this incomparable spot at the top of the list. Accessible only on foot, it offers 15 km of beach, rare wave quality and offshore wind. It’s best to go out of season, as the beach is very busy in summer. It’s one of the best surf spots around. In short, you could call this spot a golden nugget!
Pin Sec beach, Hourtin
The Pin Sec beach is lost in the middle of a pine forest, 10 km from the town of Naujac-sur-Mer. What makes this beach so special is that it remains calm and far from the crowds, even in summer. What’s more, it offers breathtaking scenery. At any time of the year, the winds are offshore, coming from the east with a mix of backing waves from the west. Popular with nature lovers and surfers alike, this resort has a charm that attracts many Dutch people every year. So don’t be surprised to hear Dutch being spoken around you.
La Pointe, Cap Ferret
In the south of the Gironde, at the entrance to the Arcachon Basin, La Pointe is the gateway for experienced surfers. Not recommended for beginners, it has fairly strong and dangerous currents. Nevertheless, if you plan to surf there, you’ll find straight, hollow waves in the heart of a breathtaking view of the Dune du Pilat. Excitement, excitement, adventure and challenge are the order of the day at Pointe du Cap Ferret.
Carcans-Plage
Very close to Lacanau, just 15 minutes away, this Medoc spot is accessible to beginners and experienced sportsmen alike. The charm of this beach lies in its wildness and peaceful ambience in the middle of nature. There are no disappointments here. The tubular waves are there for the taking, as are the pretty sensations. At the foot of the Carcans-Plage dune, a surf school and surf club offer individual and group lessons for all levels. It’s considered one of the best surf spots in Gironde.
Le Truc Vert, Cap Ferret
